We can’t believe just how quickly it came around, but on the 24th July we had our big team summer barbecue on the beautiful Hayle Towans beach. Hayley (all the way from Birmingham!) and Sharon arrived early to set up our camp, after all, there were a lot of us arriving later!
From 2pm people began to arrive, with beach blankets, cool boxes, food and families in tow. We were incredibly blessed with the weather, and many of the group stripped off and hopped into the sea straight away to cool down. The children loved it and we even saw Amy tackle her fear and go for a swim!
Jacob masterfully got the barbecue ready whilst we chatted and got the beach games started. A football game broke out, but it turned out to be Amy and Collen versus all the children… we’re still not sure who won!
We had quite the spread of food, with the classic burger and hot dogs, but also halloumi, every salad you could possibly think of (Greek, potato, pasta etc) and a delicious cheesecake to finish it all off – needless to say, we all ate our fill!
Throughout the gorgeous sunny afternoon there were more sea swims (or paddles) and plenty of running along the dunes with several of the littles demanding to be carried up before sprinting back down! We saw faces new and old, and it was so lovely to meet the newest family members and partners. Our lovely Tracey, who retired in April, came along, catching up with all the office tales and filling us in on the adventures she’s been on since we’ve seen her.
The parents in the team enjoyed some free babysitting, with the children running riot and playing with each other and the adults. At one point all the children were digging for pirate treasure with me and we uncovered coins, which was magical.
As the sun began to lower in the late afternoon, the team gradually headed home, sunkissed and full of great food. How lucky we are to have a team who love to spend time with each other!
We’re already missing it, but can’t wait for next year’s beach bash!
